The big theme at the Dallas Social Media Summit was that the fundamentals of social media haven’t changed, but their execution must. As speakers ranging from small business consultants to Fortune 100 Marketing Directors presented their ideas, the following three trends emerged.
1) Employees are the key to social media success – and still hard to motivate. Employees are often scared of the repercussions of sharing the wrong thing at the wrong time. However, they are also a company’s biggest asset. Why? Because they know the brand and its shareable assets better than any customer could. Watch as Duncan Gilman, Dean of Students at Splash Media U explains how to incentivize employees to connect with customers.
2) Content still makes the difference. Content still reigns over the social media industry. From Patrón to pro-bono, every speaker regardless of their affiliation cited content as the accelerant of social media success. So how do you create content that matters (and converts)? We asked Mike Brown, Founder of The Brainzooming Group, to share some tips.
3) To be successful in social media, you must inspire. Copying someone else’s success strategy is not a path to better results. With the mass flow of messages from every brand on every channel, people need to be inspired to act whether that is clicking on your tweets or making a donation. Paull Young, Director of Digital at charity: water talked to us about their magic ingredient for success – inspiration.
